Major Events before the Civil War
Around 1850, the united states was divided geographically- north and south- with the south highly dependent on farming and slavery and the north more industrialized than the south.
The country was so divided by slavery, California needed the compromise of 1850 to let new states decide slavery through popular sovereignty.
Around this time the southern states were seriously considering secession. Many people from the north hated slavery so the people who hid the slaves( abolitionist) hid them in a series of underground railroads through Canada so they could be free.
When Uncle Tom's Cabin was published people from the south thought it was an attack on them. two politicians became famous for their slavery debates which were Douglas and Lincolns and they were both against slavery but Lincoln thought that everyone should be free and Douglas didn't like it but thought that if a state wanted it that state could have slaves.
On December 20th, 1860 the south secede and the first state was south Carolin and all the other southern states followed.

4. Why was Oregon's referendum not passed?
I believe it is targeted to internet savvy/ computer savvy people.
6. Which candidate was most effective using social media?
Obama was most effective in my eyes because when you logged in to twitter on election day the #1 trending topic was #OBAMA2012
7. According to Jeffrey Hermes, taking a picture of your marked ballot can be used to pressure people to vote.....?
I believe this is true, but then again. It all comes down to what the person marks when they are all alone.

-Legalization of Weed:
"Voters have approved marijuana legalization in Washington and Colorado, where this smoker celebrated the "420" holiday in Denver earlier this year. But it's still illegal, according to the feds.""But in many ways, it's just the beginning of the battle. Marijuana is still illegal in the eyes of the federal government, which overrules states' rights."
2. Cite examples of "Federal vs State Authority"
"The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will," said Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, in a statement. "This is a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug, so don't break out the Cheetos or goldfish too quickly."
3. What was the "compromise" that helped to pass the referendum in Washington? How do you think this compromise would affect the demand for the product?"The Colorado U.S. Attorney's Office released an identical statement, saying that its position on marijuana as an illegal drug is "unchanged.""
"Analysts had projected the Washington voters would approve their legalization ballot, because it proposes a heavy tax for marijuana that made the proposal attractive to budget hawks. The Washington initiative calls for a 25% tax rate imposed on the product three times"
4. Why was Oregon's referendum not passed?
5. What audience do you think social media was targeted to?"Analysts had projected that it wouldn't go through and criticized various aspects of the initiative, especially the fact that it would have handed most of the regulating power in the marijuana industry to the growers rather than independent overseers"
I believe it is targeted to internet savvy/ computer savvy people.

Diary Entry #7
Dear Diary:
Today is Dec. 4,1819 and I am dieing. If I had to look back in my year I would say my life was worth living because of the people I met and my children that I had and I know I will live thought there life and be someone they can be proud of. I cant believe i been living for 200 year it been so long and I'm okay with dieing because I know it my time. My prediction is that one day are world will change, homes, towns and sheets will change, people like me will have right and can vote and live in the pursuit of happiness. That my children can have knowledge of their people and I'm sad that I wont be alive to see when that happens.
